50% of American Children Will Receive Food-stamps, Costco Now Accepts

A study released through the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Health reported that fully half of American children will be on food stamps sometime during their lifetime. This astounding statistic shows just how far reaching welfare initiatives go throughout generations of Americans. Looking a little closer at the statistics reveals just how pernicious this is.
Almost 36 million Americans are on food-stamps, half of which are children. This is a stunning 6.8 million more than this time last year, a 23.4% increase! Furthermore, that means roughly 12% of the US population is on food-stamps.
The incredible rise in food-stamp use has prompted grocery retailers such as Costco to begin accepting them; the Washington-based company had previously assumed that food-stamp users would not shop at Costco, but high use at their warehouse-style stores have disproved the theory.
Interestingly enough, food stamps are no longer given out in stamp form; rather, recipients receive a card with a certain amount of food-stamp credit on it. This is not only easier for supermarkets to process, but less embarrassing for the food-stamp user, as food-stamps are quite taboo. What do you think the long-term political effects will be if roughly half the nation will have been on food-stamps at some point of their life?
