You can help get singer John Mellencamp to quit smoking. All you have to do is join a Facebook group.
Mellencamp’s 14-year-old son, Speck, launched a Facebook group called 1,000,000 to join, my dad john mellencamp will quit smoking. Speck said he made a deal with his famous father that if enough people join the group, he will quit. Mellencamp’s publicist confirmed the claim is legitimate.
After only a few days of existence, the group has more than 125,000 members, and another Facebook group has popped up, formed of people who pledge to quit smoking with Mellencamp. The 56-year-old singer suffered a heart attack in 1994 and admits he’s tried and failed many times to kick the habit. I wonder if he’ll be able to do it now, but perhaps the fear of nationally disappointing his teenage son will be enough motivation to make Mellencamp quit. And if members of the other group keep their words, this 14-year-old’s attempt could cause a chain reaction of healthy choices.
Smoking kills one in ten adults globally, and is known to cause or contribute to various cancers, heart attacks and strokes, respiratory and circulation problems.
