Forty Days of Water

Think about the different drinks you buy throughout the day. $4.50 for a Starbucks coffee in the morning, $1.50 for Coke with lunch, $20.00 on beers or cocktails while you’re hanging out with your friends. It’s good stuff – right? But suppose you gave it all up. Not forever, just for 40 days. Think of all the money you could save if all you drank was water. That’s the Blood:Water Mission challenge.
Blood:Water Miss
ion was founded by the band Jars of Clay as a way to tell the stories of the HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa. After traveling to an AIDS hospice they discovered the link between clean water and HIV/AIDS in Africa, and launched a project to provide clean water and sanitation to communities in sub-Saharan Africa. They figured that just $1 can provide one person with clean water for a year so they came up with this challenge.
Beginning February 17, Blood: Water Mission wants you to go 40 days without all the different drinks that make up your day. Drink only water for 40 days, then donate all the money you save to help provide clean water for those in Africa who don’t have all the beverage choices you do.
According to UNICEF, more than 884 million people use unsafe drinking water sources. Money donated from the 40 days of water project will go to Blood:Water Mission to drill wells and bring clean water to people in Africa.
