Zade Calls for Peaceful Composers

Believing in the power of music to bring people together, celebrity pianist Zade recently launched the Young Composer for Peace Award through his eponymous foundation.
The Jordanian pianist and composer known for blending classical, world, and pop music is asking musicians ages 18-23 to submit a three- to eight-minute piece that represents their cultural heritage and desire for peace between nations. The submissions are due in November and the winner — who will receive $5,000 and have his or her piece recorded by Zade — will be announced in late 2010.
Zade’s work towards bringing peace in the world started after the Sept. 11 attacks. He felt that “terrorists hijacked his religion” and decided to use his music to advocate harmony in the world. He toured for four years, playing 200 shows each year to crowds varying from Queen Rania in UNESCO’s Parisian headquarters to a local synagogue in Anytown, USA.
Following his tour, the pianist created the Zade Foundation for International Peace and Understanding, through which he started the Beautiful World Project and Roads to You programs. The Young Composer for Peace Award is Zade’s latest endeavor in which he hopes to build “a legacy that will live on after I’m gone.”
